The Call

I believe there’s a calling for all of us. I know that every human being has value and purpose. The real work of our lives is to become aware. And awakened. To answer the call.

Oprah Winfrey

Have you ever had something in life that keeps calling to you? You ignore it for a bit, then the call gets louder and louder? This increasing volume happens in multiple ways. It could show up in the form of new opportunities or perhaps in new challenges.  I have found these two possibilities easiest to deal with on the pathway of following a call.  Both hold some definite direction. The scariest path is the one where the call is clear, and I have to choose to close some doors of amazing possibilities to follow the call.  This has been my journey over the last 6 months, it feels like it’s been the most difficult and most exhilarating thing I have done in life so far and I think I’m finally ready to share some of the journey with you.

Coaching, developing, lifting and inspiring others to achieve more than they thought possible is my personal vision and mission.  I love seeing others succeed. The most rewarding thing I have seen in my career is the success of others.  There is something so sweet, so artistic and beautiful to listen to someone else have an “aha” moment and then make a minor shift that makes a major difference and propels them toward their goal.  Seeing others live a life of purpose and fulfillment is incredibly inspiring and satisfying.

I have been coaching for the past 4 years, but not full-time.  My reason? I still have a family to support and my amazing wife who is dedicated to being the best mom she can be. She stays home with our children and … I know there is a slight chance I might be biased, but … we have 5 amazing children!  So with this scenario, we are a one income family in a modern society where most households require two.  Leaving my corporate job to pursue coaching full-time seemed like such a hurdle and conflicted with the strong value I have of being reliable and providing for my family.  So, for the past 4 years I have settled at coaching part-time while continuing with my full-time manager position; all the while holding the intention to grow my coaching business to the point where I can support my family and work as a coach full-time. Last summer things started to change.  At first I was filled with feelings of excitement and possibility at some of the new opportunities that were presenting themselves, then my feelings shifted to fear, fear of leaving what I knew, fear of leaving my comfort, zone for the unknown, fear of leaving something I was very good at, fear of closing doors of great potential.

Over the coming weeks I will share my journey with you. I learned so much about myself and about answering a call that requires a major leap of faith.  Through these my intention is to share stories and principles that will benefit your life.
